Rae sat at booth in the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade sipping on some tea. Scattered in front of her were mantilla folders and parchments. In her hands lay another lesson plan, or syllabus, or, well honestly she had lost track of what she was reading when she’d picked up the paper a half an hour ago. She put the paper down on the others and put her head in her hands elbows resting on the table with a huff. This had been a long day of planning and reading and rereading and honestly, her eyes were tired. It was still bright out so the pub was fairly empty, but Rae had decided that after a long tussle of attempting her work while in the castle she needed to try a change of scenery. She had actually gotten a lot done on her paperwork in the three hours she’d been here and the two she’d spent up at Hogwarts before the journey down. However after a cumulative 5 and a half hours starting at her own handwriting, she was quite finished, for now at least.
She looked at the cup of tea that she had ordered almost an hour ago, much to the chagrin of the server as the man who had been there that day had made it obvious he wanted her very drink very fast, was still almost untouched. She had practically had to beat off the man with a steel bat when she first came in, which had made her wonder about the woman who usually ran the bar. Either way it made no impact on her tea except how annoying it was to get, and that tea was stone cold now. She tapped the half full cup with the tip of her wand and muttered a warming charm before taking a much needed sip. That calmed her nerves for a moment, until she looked back at the pages. It was at that moment that she decided that she needed to gather it up and just relax for an hour or so. If she didn’t she was sure she would drive herself insane. She set her tea back in the cleared space started to gather the files back into their folders. She got it done faster than she had taken to scatter them about and put them neatly next to her sitting back and gather her tea once again.
The last few weeks before school started up was never easy. One would assume that after almost 10 years of teaching Rae would have a set plan that she used every year, and that most of her planning would be done. Well if that were true, most people would be dead wrong. Yes, she did teach the same things ever year, and yes a lot of it was in similar ways. However, Rae was a bit of what Muggels would call ADD, and she hated doing things the same way all the time. She taught a subject that had infinite possibilities, she could teach on any galaxy, anywhere, at any time, so keeping things the same every year was not something she wanted to do. Each student got the information they needed to pass the year and their education for the exams if they paid attention. She personally felt however, that the students should be the only ones interested in the subject being taught, if they were, then no one would be. She had come to learn from her days as a student, that no matter how interesting a subject, if the teacher isn’t interested then neither is the student. She couldn’t have that; space was too amazing to let Astronomy slip because of her monotone.
All of that left her in the same position year after year however, the week before start of school, just post vacation high, planning and running through papers like hankies during a cold. She looked around trying to rest her eyes and take in colors other than off white and black or red. It was nice to throw in some rich browns and bright golds into the color pallet her eyes were soaking in. She gently ran her hand behind her neck trying to work out some of the kinks gently. There was nothing to be done about her upper back and shoulders though. She rubbed a little but it was no use, the knots were there and not leaving from anything she could do. So instead of battling on with them she pulled her shoulders back and stretched her chest out before taking another sip finishing off her tea. She looked at the cup in dismay then as though it had offended her by being empty and beckoned over the waiter to bring her another cup.
