WEASLEY, PERCIVAL IGNATIUS
Your name/alias: Jessalin/J.
Age: fresh 18
Experience roleplaying: Hogwarts on the Web as Remus Lupin (Chace Crawford) and L.B. Darroway. Hogwarts Forever Young as Ofelia Sturm, Kipland Welles, and L.B. Darroway.
Other characters: None, yet.
How did you find us: Becks/Kt’s (gentle) coercion.
Character Name: Percy Weasley.
Nickname(s): Percy, Perce and (by Crouch Sr.) Weatherby
Sex: Quite male, thank you!
Age: Eighteen
Birthdate: August 22nd, 1976
House: Gryffindor
Blood Type: Pure-Blood
Occupation: Ministry of Magic: Department of International Magical Cooperation. December of 1994, promoted to Junior Assistant to the Minister of Magic.
Appearance: Like all of his brothers and sister, Percy was given the Weasley hair and freckles. He wears them over the familial pale skin and willowy frame. Percy is thinner than William and Charlie and shorter than Ronald. In fact, the only one with a more feminine appearance is his sister, Ginny. But he doesn’t bring that up much.
Percy prefers neatly groomed and well ironed clothing. Ties and starched white shirts under a freshly creased and immaculate robe. Hair parted on the side, smoothed over with gelling potions. Face washed, horn-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose, fingernails trimmed and scrubbed, shoes shined, and Percy is ready for business.
Play-By: Eddie Redmayne
Likes: Work, signs of appreciation, being right, bureaucracy, tidiness, organization, and control.
Dislikes: Chaos, being treated unfairly, realizing that he’s wrong, admitting that he’s wrong, apologizing, and rudeness.
Strengths: Organizational skills, determination, work ethic, pride, and loyalty.
Weaknesses: Jealousy, selfishness, pompousness, stubbornness, single-minded, and occasional hypocrisy.
Pet Peeves: Incorrect grammar, disorder, when people chew their nails, the patch of dirt that sometimes miraculously appears on Ronald’s nose, young children screaming, older children screaming, loose-leaf tea, and frivolity.
Mirror of erased: To climb the ranks in the Ministry, to outrank his siblings, and proving himself as an adult.
Fears: Spiders, clowns, and germs.
Boggart: Percy fears, above all else, that one day he will become completely superfluous. He envies Charlie and Bill in ways that he cannot describe. They are handsome and capable and their father is proud of them. Arthur and Percy have never gotten along quite the way he’d like. Percy looks up to his father (though he’s loathe to admit it) and wants nothing more than to prove himself worthy. He fears that he’ll never be worthy as a Weasley or a wizard.
Dementor: Expectedly, Percy wasn’t terribly popular in his early years at Hogwarts (rather, he wasn’t popular in any of his years at Hogwarts). As an eleventh year, Percy was an easy target. Once, when he got a Troll on his Transfiguration essay, he started crying in class. The other classmates ruthlessly teased him in a way that only children can. He left class early—much to the professor’s confusion—and spent the remainder of the afternoon crying into his sheets. Over the poor grade or his classmates’ rejection, he isn’t sure.
Patronus: When Percy was really young, his father would sit him down and explain all the parts of muggle contraptions. It didn’t matter that he wasn’t interested or the burnt crumbs from the toaster made him feel uncomfortable (he really doesn’t do messy). Arthur was there with him, invested completely in him and not the others. It was a wonderful feeling.
Amortentia: A freshly cast cleaning charm, ink, and well laundered robes.
Relationship status: Single. Relationships are distractions.
Turn ons: Smoothness, proper grooming, the smell of soap, and a touch of wildness.
Turn offs: Stench, dirt, saliva, and anything too—erm—inventive.
Personality: Percy, in a word, is contained. There is nothing about him that isn’t restrained, controlled, and suppressed. His emotions are muted, his appearance is tamed, and he tends to get panicky when things are too chaotic. He is anal retentive to the near point of obsessive compulsion disorder and is such from the chaos that surrounds him at home. With six other siblings, a father that easily loses his grasp on happenings, and a mother prone to temper tantrums there isn’t much in his life that is terribly controlled. He compensates by controlling everything that he can. Thus, he can appear tense and pompous even at his calmest. Percy isn’t good at conveying that he doesn’t truly think himself superior, he just wants respect because he’s nervous. His default emotion is prudish arrogance.
Percy is often prone to jealousy as well. He envies his handsome, daring, and charming brothers. So, in retaliation, he attempts to be nothing like them. Where Charlie is brash and swagger, Percy is premeditation and careful steps. Where Bill is grin and wink, he is scowl and avoid. Where Fred and George are charm and trick, Percy is wary and polite. Where Ronald is emotion and disorder, Percy is stoic and controlled. It helps to keep him from losing the sibling competition that has been present in his life since birth.
Percy knows that he is not the favorite of the family. His mother loves him, but that doesn’t win the approval of his father. An approval he desperately craves. When Arthur refuses to acknowledge his successes, Percy tends to go to the extreme or look for acknowledgment elsewhere. He replaces his father with other patriarchal figures who he identifies with better. These figures usually possess more power and recognition than his own father. He spent too much time poor and unnoticed to not long for a taste of it.
Mother: Molly Weasley; 45; Mother; Molly often looks out for Percy because she recognizes how hard he works, she is a good mother to him; pure-blood.
Father: Arthur Weasley; 46; employment in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office; Arthur and Percy bicker often because of their dissimilar personalities—Percy longs for his father’s affection, but at the same time cannot stand to be around Arthur; pure-blood.
Siblings: Bill, 25, desk job at Gringotts, oldest brother, pure-blood. Charlie, 22, Dragon Handler, older brother, pure-blood. Fred and George, 16, students, twin younger brothers. Ron, 14, student, younger brother. Ginny, 13, student, youngest sister.
Other important figures: Barty Crouch Sr, pure-blood, employer.
Pets: Hermes, an owl.
Birth place: Devon, England (“The Burrow”)
Overall history: Percy worked very hard at Hogwarts to obtain a respectable job at The Ministry of Magic. He achieved top marks at Hogwarts on his OWLS and NEWTS and managed to be not only prefect but Head Boy as well. He spent a fair amount of time in school climbing social ladders so immediately after graduation he was granted entry into the Ministry. Although he was given a bit job, Percy takes it extremely seriously. He plans to continue climbing social ladders until he has a job of importance. Percy is known for sacrificing what others would consider important for status.
Percy has had only one romantic relationship in his life—with Penelope Clearwater. He enjoyed her company immensely as she was a very respectable young woman, but things did not work out. Percy had no romantic notions about Penelope in the slightest. His attraction was purely intellectual. He does not miss her. At all. At least, that’s what he tells himself when he feels rather lonely.
After being assigned to the Department of International Magical Cooperation, Percy quickly adjusted to life in the Ministry. He readily does whatever anyone asks of him and tends to take his occupation more seriously than is strictly necessary. So, when Percy was asked to visit Hogwarts during the Triwizard Tournament frequently, he took matters very seriously. He was informed that with the extra students from different countries, it was crucial international relationships were preserved. Percy will now sporadically check in on the tournament, report back to the Ministry for a few weeks, then pop back to survey any changes. It is an added bonus that this allows him to check up on Fred, George, Ronald, and Ginny to be sure they are studying hard enough. If this means he runs into Ali from time to time...well, he'll manage.
Roleplay sample: Percy Weasley sat gingerly on his heels, crouching on the lawns like some sort of straight-backed toad. He balanced his legal pad on one knee and frantically scrawled notes onto it with a self-inking pen. It was one of the many things he'd purchased in preparation for his job at the Ministry.
Percy grinned to himself at the thought, pausing after crossing a 't' to congratulate himself on his success. First Weasley to leap straight into a Ministry position after school. That should make his parents proud. Even Father would appreciate his son's undeniable accomplishment. If he could pry himself away from a muggle contraption long enough.
At this darkening thought, Percy scowled and continued his notes. Before the other schools arrived, he wanted to be sure that everything was culturally suitable. He had spoken to Dumbledore through owl post and had confirmed that there were no blatant insults to the visiting students lingering around the castle. Percy was soundly worried about Peeves making an inappropriate comment, but he was working on that.
Percy looked up and considered the lake. He had been informed of the mode of entry for one of the participating schools and he wondered idly if anything could be done about the squid. His thoughts wandered elsewhere in a surprisingly short amount of time. To his brothers--would Ronald ever stop growing?--to his sister--he sincerely did not like the way that Dean fellow was looking at Ginny--then back to his position in the Ministry.
Determined to prove that he was every bit as competent as his siblings, Percy finished up his notes and strode briskly back to the castle. He needed to find the Bloody Baron to discuss the control of Peeves. The last thing Percy needed was a crude ghost shouting French obscenities at the girls of Beauxbaton.
Goodness, so much work to do. Perhaps he would skip seeing his family this weekend as planned. Afterall, there was no point in coming home without something to tell them about his job. It wouldn't do to go empty handed.
Approved!
