Birth place: Erlangen, Germany (lived there for the first seven years of his life)
Overall history: Edward was born in Erlangen, Germany only ten months after his elder brother, Erick, was born. They are often confused as twins and were very close before certain events that took place during their Hogwarts days put a (mostly) amicable distance between them. His younger sister, Mina, doesn't remember her parents fighting or her father's mysterious death, so Edward feels obligated to protect her from the nastier parts of life. After his father's death when he was seven, the Wenlock family moved to Cardiff, Wales. While not at Hogwarts Edward and his younger sister Mina still keep a house there.
He had a small group of friends during his Hogwarts days as a Ravenclaw student, and was well admired by the girls even though he rarely returned their attention (although there was that one night with Amanda Bixby after Ravenclaw won the house cup his sixth year... he rarely drank fire whiskey after that.) He and Hugh Hennessey were decent enough friends, considering that the Scottish wizard was two years below him and a bit more rambunctious than Edward, the straight-laced Ravenclaw prefect. Edward dated a feisty girl named Maureen Bailey during his seventh year. They kept in touch even after he left to work for the Ministry of Magic later that year, but soon she fell in love with a Muggle boy and it broke his heart. It wasn’t until a few years later that he met a girl named Maira Skye at the Ministry. They kept their relationship quiet, which didn’t really help it to grow, so it only lasted a few months and for many years after that, he led a quiet bachelor’s life.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Edward was hired by the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Magical Transportation, a job that he loved as an admirer of magical transport. He worked with the Floo Network Authority before becoming their department's international liaison, but it wasn't long before another department in the Ministry of Magic recruited him. The Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes saw that he was talented with a wand, and after the initial appearance of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named in 1970, Edward became a member of the elite Invisibility Task Force, whose missions were as secret as those kept by members of the Department of Mysteries. Edward mastered Occlumency and dueling during his time with the force, and also saw firsthand the dangers that were presenting themselves to their world.
After the death of a student and a pair of teachers at Hogwarts in 1976, the protection of the students at Hogwarts was declared the Ministry's top priority. One of the former professors of Arithmancy at Hogwarts wrote both Edward and Dumbledore recommending him for the post, and after meeting with Dumbledore, Edward deemed it prudent to return to his school to protect the future of the magical world. Later that year he was moved to Defense Against the Dark Arts, which was when he started forming a relationship with his future wife, Evelyn Teague. Later that year he suffered a traumatic attack that damaged his memory and his ability to perform occlumency. He suffered many bouts of depression, and Dumbledore shifted him back to Arithmancy teacher after that.
He and Evelyn Teague married in 1979, the same summer that her classmates James Potter and Lily Evans said their vows. Nine months after their honeymoon, their first child, Gwen was born. Jonathan followed three years later and two years after him came Dylan. Both girls are the splitting image of their mother and their son looks like Edward's mother, he often argues. They all have thick, curly brown hair and dark eyes and their mother's tempers, but Edward thinks that Dylan's the true blend of the two. She's got her mother's eclectic taste in music, even at age nine, and his brains. Not that Evie doesn't have any to share, but Dylan's logic always suited his own better.
Role-play sample:
Evelyn laughed guiltily as she continued filing, pausing to look up at him and say, “Bogeyman. He was under my bed and wanted some snacks.” She said it so casually and with such a frank honesty that Edward couldn't help but laugh, a quiet yet bark-like laugh that surprised even him. "I didn't know you kept him as a pet. Out of curiosity, what exactly does the Bogeyman eat?"
If she was surprised that he joked back with her, she didn't show it. They continued conversing about her pet bogeyman as if he was real... which, from what he'd gathered about Evelyn Teague over the past few months, wasn't implausible.
"Jesus, Athro, if you needed some help, you could have asked.”
He glanced over at her when she unzipped her boots, stiffening a bit as he prepared himself for the smell. He'd once been sitting with Hugh one afternoon when he'd removed his shoes and Edward had the good grace to grimace and ask, "What smells like an apple's armpit?" Luckily for Miss Teague and his lack of manners, her feet didn't smell. It was a bit unusual for her to take her shoes off during detention, and Wenlock wasn't quite sure if he should tell her off or just ignore it. He went for the second option.
"All this filing usual builds up when you're not paying attention. I miss Arithmancy sometimes; I had much smaller classes, especially not dealing with first and second year students, and the material was much more..." He bobbed his head as he tried to think of the perfect word. "... condensed? Concentrated? I dunno, something that starts with a C."
Evelyn went silent for a moment as she stared at a poorly written name on one of the files she was organizing and Edward groaned and scratched out a comment he'd written at the top of one of his students' essays. He liked grading tests much better. "Do you get detention often, Miss Teague?" he asked, a playful lilt in his tone as he expected her to either disappoint or impress him... maybe a little of both.
Approved!
