Personality: Sirius has changed very much from his youth, his spirits broken while in Azkaban. Not a day goes by that he isn't haunted by the deaths of James and Lily and angry at the memory of Pettigrew framing him for the crimes that he himself committed. He's much less trusting, although he has renewed faith in his friend Remus Lupin, and is rather attached to Harry, his friends Ron and Hermione, and he writes often to Hagrid to tell him how Buckbeak, a.k.a. Featherwing, is doing. Sirius has spent a year on the run, staying mostly in his dog form and eating as a dog, and it's been a long time since he's had a proper meal. He's cranky and moody when left alone, but his spirits are instantly lifted whenever he's around his friends. He acts almost like his old self - charming, witty and playful, and even a bit mischievous.

Overall history: Sirius was born into the Most Noble and Ancient House of Black, an old wizarding family that prides itself on being pureblood and having all of its descendants sorted into Slytherin. When Sirius arrived at Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor House, his mother stopped speaking to him except for whenever she would scream at him for tarnishing the family name. His father was obsessed with preserving the family honor and all of its valuables, so he has heavily fortified the family home, making it unplottable and repellent to Muggles. He was very reclusive and left the tending to family and home to his wife, who was easily stressed and lost her temper on the fly. Sirius rebelled in many ways, finding his family’s ways of living repressive and old-fashioned. He pinned up posters of Muggle motorcycles and cars, as well as a few posters of bikini-clad Muggle girls. They drove his mother batty and he put a permanent sticking charm on them so that they’ll never come off the walls, not even after he’s long dead. He was never sure if it was the subject of the posters that made his mother crazy or the fact that they didn’t move like wizard photos and portraits do.
At Hogwarts he met James Potter, with whom he immediately became best friends. They soon afterwards discovered their friend Remus Lupin’s “furry little problem,” and the group, followed by their adoring friend Peter Pettigrew, learned to transform themselves into animagi. Sirius’s animagus form is a big, shaggy black dog who likes to chase birds and have a great time, much like Sirius in his human form. He was a very active individual, although prone to bouts of laziness, especially with regards to his homework. He played beater for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, for which his best mate James is the seeker and captain, and Sirius acted as his wingman, booth on the pitch and off. He was sympathetic to James’ crush on Lily Evans, and although he had little patience with such matters in his own love life, he felt that time is all they would need to come together, and he was right! Like James, he always found Severus Snape to be highly infuriating, often picking on him and calling him “Snivellus.” During their fifth year he played a cruel trick on Severus, telling him how to get past the Whomping Willow and through the passageway to the Shrieking Shack, where a wild Remus awaited him in werewolf form. James caved and at the last minute, saved Severus from what would have been certain death or at least a rather brutal attack that would have turned him into a werewolf himself.
After graduation, Sirius acted as the best man at James and Lily’s wedding, and after the birth of their son Harry, he was named godfather. He attended many weddings that year as several couples were rushing into marriage while the threat of Voldemort looming over their heads. He was at his friend Evie’s house on Halloween in 1981 when he learned of James and Lily’s deaths. He rushed over to Godric’s Hollow where he found his friends’ bodies in the wreckage. He fought back tears when he heard crying from not far off and discovered Harry still in his crib, a bright red cut on his forehead but otherwise unharmed. When Hagrid arrived on the scene on orders from Dumbledore to take Harry to his aunt and uncle’s, Sirius didn’t argue. He even let Hagrid take his motorcycle to speed his trip along. Sirius didn’t even say goodbye to Harry and Hagrid, didn’t look back at the bodies of his friends before he apparated. It took him hours to track Pettigrew down, and when he confronted him in the Muggle street, Peter was prepared. He shouted for all to hear that he had betrayed James and Lily, then he cut off his finger, blew up the street and apparated. Sirius, mad from shock and the lack of sleep, laughed. He couldn’t stop laughing, even when the aurors came and took him away. He was placed in Azkaban without a trial.
Sirius lived in a cell in Azkaban for twelve years, the memories of his last two days of freedom haunting him those twelve years, Pettigrew’s victorious sneer appearing in his mind over and over and over. Finally, in 1993, he was given a copy of The Daily Prophet that had a picture of the Weasley family inside, a very familiar rat resting on Arthur’s son Ronald’s shoulder. He’d found him! Sirius was able to resist the full brunt of the dementors’ effect in his dog form, which he kept to during those years since the Dementors are blind. He was able to escape in his dog form and found Pettigrew in June of 1994, where he was confronted not only by his backstabbing, traitorous friend but also his former friend, Remus Lupin. Together they attempted to kill Peter, but were both stopped by James’ son Harry. Pettigrew escaped when Remus transformed into a werewolf and Harry and Sirius were nearly killed by Dementors. Long story short – he escaped on Buckbeak, Hagrid’s pet hippogriff, and the two have been on the run for months.
Role-play sample: At his subtle dig, Evie nudged him with her shoulder irritably. “I’m so honored to be your last resort of entertainment. I sees that I come just below studying.” She gestured at the chair that held his bag with a Buzzcocks album. “I’m smitten, Sirius. Watch as I swoon, bastard.” He chuckled at her mock-irritation and waved a dismissive hand at his bag. "That's what I get for attempting to be scholastically responsible. I'll know better next time Evie, I promise!" he said with a childish whine, leaning in to hug her with his chin on her shoulder. Evie swatted him away and he chuckled, loving how easy it was to push her buttons when she was still a bit tired. She did look like she'd just rolled out of bed, though, and when he commented on that, Evie frowned and shook her head at him.
“I wonders why you has no girls to distract yourself with, such a charmer! I did just get up, but I took a shower, so my hair must be a little wild right?” Her dark curly hair bounced side to side as she shook her head. “I’m Queen of the Saturday Morning Lay In; my power does extend to the week though. How late is it? Also, just an added word of wisdom or two, it’s best to leaving lying cereal crumbs lie in cereal boxes; I tried to choke myself on dust.”
Sirius laughed, shooting her an approving look as the next song started playing on the enchanted record player. Evie was right, these guys really did kick ass. "You look fabulous, Evie, as usual. Although..." he narrowed his eyes and swatted clumsily at her chin. "You've still got a bit of cereal dust on your face..." She smacked his hand away again and he laughed some more, finding Evie much more entertaining than an essay on the properties of antidotes to deadly poisons... although he might need one if he kept on teasing her.
"Oh, for Pete's sake," he muttered, his eye catching the title on one of the albums in his lap. Sirius thought of Wormtail every time he muttered that oath. "You and the sodding Vibrators. I know girls usually like those, but this band is rubbish."
He loved picking on her for some of his musical tastes. The fire that the teasing set in her eyes was all too fun to watch, especially whenever she retaliated, which Evelyn Teague always did. Never one to back down from an argument, she was. A true Gryffindor girl - that's what Sirius loved about her. She felt more like family to him than that slew of Slytherins he belonged to ever did.
