Welcome
Welcome to the wizarding world. Harry Potter and his friends are in their fifth year at Hogwarts. This is a AU, everything that has happened in the first four years in the books is true here, but from 1995 onwards we are making our own version of events.

It's up to us now on what happens, will Sirius still die at the end of this year, will Snape kill Dumbledore, will we lose Fred, Tonks, Remus and others in the war.

Even though this is a AU Roleplaying game, we are trying to keep as close to the books as possible.

 An Unexpected Connection
« Thread Started on Jun 26, 2009, 8:00am »

Scarlet Rose was standing outside the Great Hall. Leaning against one of the walls, she watched as other students walked past the doors to probably join their friends for dinner. But she didn't join them, not even when a small group of Slytherin students told her to come along. 'They're just looking for another person to use in their schemes. I prefer to be the one using someone, not the other way around.' Scarlet had thought, but when she refused them, she felt a bit of disappointment.

'I really don't have anyone I can talk to, and I hate being in there sitting by myself. I'm not taking the chance that someone will see me like this, I still can't believe how emotional I'm getting over it!' She glared down at the floor, angry at herself. She had to be stronger, or else she would never make her mother proud; wherever she was.

So Scarlet kept standing there, becoming unaware of her surroundings, lost in her own thoughts of her mother and of friends she didn't have.

Pansy walked through the great hall once again looking for Draco to sit with him. Crab and Goyle were not the best of company, he needed someone intelligent and witty to talk to and to understand his jokes, that was where she came in. She was not paying attention to the poeple around her just searching for the platinum hair she knew so well. That was when she hit the lump of person that was walking the opposite way of her. She was knocked over and fell on the girl from the sheer forces of gravity.

She growled and got off of the girl with a fire in her eye. "Hey Watch were you're going hyppogryff!" She said angrily. "You're worse than that Buck Teeth or whatever that thing was called!" She insulted referring to the hypogryff what had bitten Draco in their third year. She was more than happy that that thing was gone. She looked at the girl and registered the color of the robs and blew at one of the long bangs that had fallen into her face when they fell. A slytherin should know better, unless they were one of the awful and useless new first years, and this girl was no first year.

Pansy stood over her tapping her foot in wait of an apology. After all she was Pansy Parkinson, the more influential and strongest girl in Slytherin. She was known almost as well as Draco was. He was hers and the whole school knew it, and they knew not to mess with her. She was the one with the infamous saying "If you can't beat them, hire someone else to do it fro you." She was very good at that. There was no question of her power or sway over Slytherin girls, she was the leader and was to be treated as such. It was even scarier to others now that she was a prefect.

Mo walked towards the entrance hall, singing under his breath. As he moved to open the doors, he noticed the large form of Pansy Parkinson yelling at a fellow Slytherin. Mo sighed to himself, realizing that what he was about to do would no doubt alienate himself even farther from most of his house.

"Hey Parkinson! Why don't you pick on someone your own size, maybe a troll?"

Scarlet had turned, right at the moment that someone knocked into her. Falling hard on the ground, she swore loudly. After a few seconds - and after whatever was on top of her got off - she slowly got to her feet, dusting her robes off. Once she was done, she looked up into the glare of Pansy Parkinson.

"You done yet?" She asked rudely, tired of the insults that the girl had been spitting at her. "I'm so sorry, princess, but if you had been watching where you were going, maybe you wouldn't have flattened me." Her voice was dripping with venom, annoyed with the fact that Pansy was treating her like one of the idiotic Hufflepuffs. Scarlet looked back at her with undaunted grey-blue eyes. 'You may be a prefect, but I'm not afraid of you, so don't even try.'

Hearing another voice join the conversation, she turned. A smirk played at her lips at what the Slytherin boy said. 'Hm, this is getting interesting. I needed a little bit of fun to cheer me up.' She faced Pansy again after acknowledging the newest addition to the conversation. "Aren't you going to run off and get Draco? I'm sure he'd love to hear your whiny voice for the hundredth time today!"

A rougish grin tugged at the corners of Mo's mouth. He cracked his knuckles and whipped his wand from his pocket, scratching his temple with it.

"Oh yes, go get Draco. I'm sure that would turn out wonderfully for his health."

Mo grinned even more broadly to himself, waiting to see if this situation would play out how he would like it to.

Pansy felt the start of a gang up here but stood her ground. There was no need to call in anything, she wouldn't take points form her won house, but she had more powers than that. She looked at Moktasumi perfectly looking forward to a word war with the girl, but he was a problem to be dealt with. "I don't need Draco to fight my battles, contrary to popular belief. No one invited you to this party Moktasumi, besides don't you have some wall to hurt yourself on?" She said with the same bite that always hit the boy when he conversed whit her. He and Draco were far from friends, which gave her a hint at what to think of him. Mix that with the fact that she had never had a civil conversation with him and it made for an explosive situation.

She turned back to scarlet choosing that ignoring any further statements from Mo would be prudent. This girl had some moxy. Though Pansy hated to be stood up to she did like people with a backbone and as far as she could tell this girl had one, now to test how far it stretched. If she decided to fight her own verbal battle without defaulting to Moktasumi she might be worth something to Pansy, certainly higher than a pawn, maybe a plotter if she kept her distance from Draco. So far it seemed likely that she did not want Pansy's prize, so she was safe for now. But if she did default to the power of a man, she was just another mound to step over, a mound with some support yes, but a mound none the less.

Pansy let a wicked grin spread over her face. "Well if you spent less time talking to yourself, and more time gaining some personal pride, you might not have been such an easy target." She said with a 'better- than- thou" tone that she used in all of her tests. She was starting small and working up to see just how much this girl could handle. If she passed this level she would have a chance at being something, but that was an ‘if’. Pansy could be harsh when she felt the pestering of something in her way, but when that obstacle came to her side, she was a valuable ally. She hoped that this girl would pass, there was something about her that set her apart from Pansy’s other cronies, she was less worried about status or how the so claimed “Rose of Slytherin” viewed them. It was refreshing, but she needed to prove that her fortresses could stand.

Scarlet let her lips pull up into a smirk when she saw Pansy straighten herself. She was happy that, though it seemed like it was two on one, she was standing her ground. She would have never figured that Slytherin's Rose would do that - atleast not when she was by herself. This excited her.

"Mhm, but if I don't talk to myself, who would I talk to? It's not like anyone here can live up to my expectations," She shot back, her voice mocking. Raising an eyebrow at the girl before her as she asked a silent question, 'But maybe you can?' Scarlet tried not to let the hope she was feeling flicker through her gaze. She crossed her arms over her chest and glances over at the male, who she noticed had pulled out his wand at the mention of Draco.

"As much as I'd love to see the prince right now," She paused to wink at Pansy, knowing that her choice of words would probably have an affect on her, "I really don't want to duel, seems I forgot my wand in my dorm. Besides, I prefer a verbal battle anyday." Scarlet flashed a smile in the boy's direction, hoping that he would understand what she meant. 'I want to see how far she'll go, see if she can stand against me. I have a feeling Pansy's going to be the one that can do that...'

'Now, what's going to be the Rose's next move?'

Pansy was almost glad when a retort came, she had just moved up in ranks, now to see just how far she could go. Pansy had the power to change every meaningful and socially accepted mind in Slytherin, so she had sway over most of the house. The easiest way to move up was to get on her good side, but that was harder than it looked. You couldn't just make fun of others and laugh at all of her jokes or insults, you have to be witty and intelligent enough to fight back. It didn't take long for the perfect retort to surface in the mastermind's head. There was a simple retort but she waited until Scarlet was finished with Mo. Draco seemed to be the hot topic, as always, she loved to talk about him, but this was not the time or the place. still there was a pleasing part that was added to Scarlet as she talked to Mo. "As much as I'd love to see the prince right now," So she acknowledged Draco's place as the best and brightest of all of Slytherin. That defiantly added another step to the girl in font of her, especially since her previous comments stated that she would not try to steal him. Still there was more to come.

"I really don't want to duel, seems I forgot my wand in my dorm. Besides, I prefer a verbal battle anyday." She would say that forgetting a wand in another place was not a good idea, but there was always so much going for her that teaching her to carry her wand was not enough to knock her down. Especially with what came after. Flat out saying she preferred verbal duels was a very strong thing that pleased Pansy to no end. She needed a partner to duel and spar with when she was board, and a person who knew how to stand her ground. This was turning out well for her. Now it was time to test the strength again. She would not show the outcome to Mo, since the girl had already been admitted into the ranks of Slytherin's finest already, but she would be glad to talk to the girl after he was gone and offer her the position if this didn't break her.

"That's true you're expectations are far too low. We all just can't duck that low. Though, I'm sure one of the Huffelpuffs over there would be glad to try and help you raise them a bit. You might actually manage to go all the way up and have a conversation with a Gryffindor with their help." She responded easily to the girl. She was once again pulling in the ranks of who was better in Slytherin's view. Everyone in Slytherin knew the totem pol of worthiness. Huffelpuffs were always on the bottom, they were too weak to even make good Pawns. Then came Gryffindors. They were well hated, but they were not as worthless as Huffelpuffs, they just weren't very good at anything that mattered to a Slytherin. Then came Ravenclaws. They were in the middle of the huge gap between the two bottoms and the top. It was a large scale after all and they had managed quite a bit. They were two very similar houses. Slytherin and Ravenclaw both praised cunning and intelligence, they just used it in different ways. Plus everyone knew the story of the Romance between Ravenclaw and The Great Salazar Slytherin. Now she waited to see the results of this portion of the test.

Scarlet blinked, her eyes widened in surprise. Hope surged inside of her as she noticed some things that were going on. Was it just her, or did it seem like Pansy was trying to see how far she'd go, just like Scarlet was doing to her? An initiation process? They were both analyzing each other, and she couldn't help but feel a little exhilarated by the idea that they were both so alike in many ways. Did Pansy feel it too? She wondered.

"I'd much rather talk to a wall than any of the students in those Houses," She retorted, only just realizing the expectant look she was being given. Deciding to hint at what she was thinking, she added, "But what's even better than that, is that it's such great fun talking to you."

It was meant to sound atleast a tad sarcastic, but it really didn't. Scarlet watched Pansy carefully in order to judge a reaction. She didn't want to sound like she thought she was privileged or honored to be having a conversation with the Slytherin Prefect - because she really didn't feel that way - but she did enjoy their exchange of words, taunts, and the like. Scarlet felt as if she could really get to know this girl - and for the first time since she got to Hogwarts, she wanted to get to know someone.

She grinned at Pansy, "How about we take this somewhere else? Before we attract a crowd." Hoping that she got the message, the red-head Slytherin waited for an answer before they moved to another area. 'Either the Rose is going to curse me off, or she'll want to talk... or she'll do both.' Scarlet though, slightly amused.

Pansy smirked at the girl’s response. She showed character and the necessary quality of Slytherin supremacy to be in her standards. “A wall would be better fitted for company, it may understand you.” She shot back not holding back for a moment. She looked at Mo then back to the red head with her spark of curiosity and hope still shining brightly in her eye. She did notice one small thing however. Her spark of testing and curiosity was mirrored in the eyes across from her.

How ironic that she was not only testing but being tested. She defiantly like this little red head and she could learn to live with the Weasleyesque colors, after all Weasleys were in all of the pure families, and as long as the trait came farther back than the blood traitors now she was fine. "But what's even better than that, is that it's such great fun talking to you." She heard the Sarcasm well and could hardly hold back a laugh at what was happening. Now that she had discovered what was going on she was desperate to offer the girl a position as her second. DuMarc would not like it but the girl could suffer. The little French blonde was more annoying than her mother ever had been and no one was sure if she were a pure blood spawned from a traitor father or the child of a half-breed so they would not miss her flighty ways if she left Pansy’s ranks permanently for being bumped down.

"How about we take this somewhere else? Before we attract a crowd." Keeping up the façade Pansy glared at her and nodded looking like they were heading off to fight. “After you, Beauty must always be last so that the way is clear of dirt!” She said watching the eyes that they had seemed to attract. She grabbed two apples off of the table, stuffing one into her bag and taking a bite of the other before letting Scarlet go first. She would wait until they were in the hall to drop the masquerade hoping that the other girl understood what she was doing.

((DuMarc is a made up from HOTW so yeah she’s not cannon I just put her daughter into Pasy’s group because we know it exists but no one is actually told to us but Millicent and no one knows the order… please don’t massacre me for it!))

Keeping up the facade of being rather annoyed at the girl before her, Scarlet walked past her, rolling her eyes as she went. Knowing that Pansy would follow, she didn't wait up as she headed out in search of an empty hallway. It was an easy task, seeing as almost everyone was in the Great Hall, and soon she was able to whip around to face her 'adversary'. A grin formed on her lips and she couldn't help the small laugh that came soon after. That argument had been quite entertaining, and she hoped Pansy would know that's why she was laughing - and not mistake it for anything else.

Her eyes danced as she finally raised her gaze to meet the other girl's. "So, Pansy, how are we going to settle this?" She said, and though her words would seem hateful they were said with only playful interest.

Then she saw the apple in the prefect's hand and Scarlet remembered that they hadn't had anything to eat. 'I really should have grabbed something, oh well.' She ignored her stomach's protests and focused only on Pansy - not the apple she held. "Are you going to hex me? I see no other reason why you agreed to come along to an empty corridor with me." Her voice tinged with sarcasm, though she really wasn't sure about the reason for Pansy's actions. Scarlet hoped though, that it was a more enjoyable reason other than the one she had spoken.
